Since December 2009, the SONdelux - in combination with Edelux - has had StVZO approval for all wheel sizes (16"-28"). An LED - in contrast to a halogen bulb - is highly effective even at partial load, i.e. when operated below its rated output. Therefore it is no longer necessary to build the dynamo in a way that it reaches its full power already at the lowest possible driving speed. The SONdelux is therefore smaller and lighter than a hub dynamo for halogen lighting (SON 28). The power consumption at idle is reduced by 30 - 35% compared to the SON 28. In its robustness and in its high-quality design, however, the SONdelux corresponds to the SON 28.

It achieves its rated power in a 28" wheel at approx. 16 km/h (SONdelux 19 km/h). It is therefore recommended if a lot of light is needed when driving slowly or if other devices are to be operated or their batteries charged. The new SON 28 is similar in construction and appearance to the SONdelux. In the standard version (non-disc), the flange distance and bearing distance are increased by 12 mm and 10 mm respectively compared to the SONdelux.
